1. About MyRoadbook
MyRoadbook provides Learners theory lessons, Drivers practice simulations, guides and a test-centre directory at myroadbook.co.za. The service is operated by a sole proprietor trading as MyRoadbook.
This notice covers information handled through the website and related support enquiries. For help, contact support@myroadbook.co.za.
2. Information we collect
- Your account: Clerk manages sign-in using your email or Google account. Google sign-in can share the basic profile you authorise, such as your name, email and profile image. We link your sign-in to a MyRoadbook account; we do not receive your Google password or read your Gmail, contacts or Drive files.
- Your learning: selected vehicle and course, answers, practice and test results, completed lessons, saved checkpoints and update times. Simulation actions may be saved to resume or assess an exercise; they do not record real-world driving.
- Your preferences: language, theme, vehicle, sound and graphics settings, guest exercises and cached progress may be stored in your browser.
- Your messages: if you email support, we use your email address and the details you send to help with your request. Please do not send passwords, verification codes, identity documents or full card details.
- Test-centre corrections: where reporting is available, we keep the centre, reported field, description, time and a hashed report-session identifier to limit duplicates. Avoid including other people's personal information.
- Technical records: service providers may process IP addresses, browser and device details, requested pages, timestamps and error logs to deliver and protect the service.
3. How we use it
We use this information to sign you in, save and restore your learning, show results, manage course access, answer questions, investigate faults and prevent misuse.
Depending on the activity, we process information to provide the service you request, meet legal obligations or protect legitimate interests such as account security. Where consent is required, we ask for it for that purpose. Reading this notice or accepting purchase terms does not subscribe you to marketing.
You can browse free content without an account. Account-based progress across devices needs sign-in; blocking essential storage may prevent sign-in or saving from working.
4. Cookies and browser storage
Clerk uses cookies and related technology for sign-in and sessions. MyRoadbook stores preferences and cached account progress in local storage, and guest exercises and temporary navigation details in session storage. A correction-report cookie, when set, lasts up to one day.
Clearing website data can remove preferences, guest work and progress that has not synced. It does not delete records already saved to your account. On a shared device, sign out and clear website data when you finish.
We do not use advertising pixels. Optional Google Analytics is separate from the cookies and browser storage needed for sign-in, preferences and saved learning. You can accept or refuse analytics without changing how your courses work.
Optional analytics: your choice
With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages, guides and lessons are useful and where the site needs improvement. It can record page views, broad device/browser information and actions such as starting a lesson or opening an official booking link.
We keep optional analytics off until you choose Accept analytics. No thanks leaves it off. You can change your mind at any time using Analytics settings at the bottom of the page. Necessary sign-in and saved learning keep working either way.
When enabled, Google Analytics uses cookies and browser identifiers and processes technical connection information, including your IP address. We do not send Google your name, email address, MyRoadbook account ID, individual answers or detailed simulation actions. We do not use these measurements for advertising, Google Signals or remarketing.
We remove unnecessary URL parameters and use general names for account pages. Google may process analytics information outside South Africa under its own privacy terms. We set analytics cookies to expire after 60 days and use a two-month retention setting for user-level event data; aggregated reports can be kept longer.
Turning analytics off stops future tracking and clears the first-party analytics cookies we can control. It does not automatically remove information already collected by Google. Account deletion, clearing browser storage and withdrawing analytics consent are different actions; contact support@myroadbook.co.za if you need help with a privacy request.
5. Services we work with
Clerk provides authentication, Supabase provides hosted database services, and Vercel hosts and delivers the website. These providers process information needed for their role. Saved learning records are restricted to the relevant account and authorised service operations.
Viewing an embedded Google Map connects your browser to Google and can share your IP address and referring website; Google may also use cookies. We do not request your device's precise location. External directions and booking links open services with their own privacy practices.
Our lesson controls do not request camera or microphone access. Coach reactions and sound effects do not record you.
Providers may process or store information outside South Africa. Transfers must meet applicable data-protection requirements; we do not promise South Africa-only storage. Information may also be disclosed where lawfully required or necessary to investigate fraud or protect rights.
6. Purchases, invoices and emails
Course purchases are coming soon on the public website. No payment is taken there at this stage.
When purchases open, your account will link each purchase to its vehicle and package, amount and currency, payment status and receipt. Payment-card details will be entered with the payment provider; our checkout does not collect full card numbers or card security codes.
We will update this notice before enabling any new payment or invoice-email processing. Affiliate, promo and redeem features are not active on the public site.
7. Keeping your information
We use HTTPS, verified sign-in and restricted database access to help protect information. No website can guarantee perfect security.
We keep account and learning records to provide your courses and saved progress. Support and security records are kept only while needed for their purpose or a lawful retention requirement. We do not currently apply one automatic deletion period to every record type.
You can request deletion through Your data in My courses when the account-deletion feature is available, or by emailing support@myroadbook.co.za. You will need to confirm the request and may need to verify your sign-in again.
Completed account deletion removes the account email and sign-in profile held by our authentication provider and clears your personal learning and account records from our active database. We retain the internal user ID, request/completion times and a protected identity marker to record the deletion and stop old sessions recreating the account; the deletion audit does not retain your email.
Deleting an account cannot erase exported copies, another device that is offline, messages in a recipient mailbox or provider backups immediately. Provider backups expire under their retention arrangements. Any legally required retention will be explained rather than described as completed deletion.
8. Your privacy choices
Under applicable law, including South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you may request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information or deletion where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it. You may also object to certain processing or withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Withdrawal does not undo earlier lawful processing.
For account deletion, use Your data in My courses when available. You can also email support@myroadbook.co.za with the subject Privacy request or Data deletion request. Include the account email and what you need help with, without sending passwords or sign-in codes. We verify your authority before releasing or changing account information.

9. Younger learners
Our learning material is suitable for people preparing for their learner's or driving licence, including younger learners. Free experiences do not require an account.
Where applicable law requires permission from a parent or guardian to process a younger learner's personal information, that permission is still required. Agreeing to our terms does not itself establish that a parent has given consent. We do not currently collect birth dates, identity documents or proof of age through registration.
Parents and guardians can contact support@myroadbook.co.za about a child's information or request its review or deletion. We may need to verify their authority.
10. Updates to this notice
We update this notice when our services or information practices change and show the date at the top. If a change requires fresh consent or another notice, we will take that step rather than treating continued browsing as blanket consent.
